I should say, people whoever is born during the period late 70's and early 80's are the luckiest, for they tasted different challenges of life. Before 1970, Life was more difficult, for they might have struggled to enjoy their teenage.By the time the technologies are available they are already old enough with lots of responsibilities. However, they are strong mentally than my generation people.
I, being part of a middle class family went through a period of sleeping before a table fan, and later a ceiling, now of course, spend my time mostly under AC!!. What I am looking is the help that my past has done to me. It showed how to move ahead or solve when I have a problem at hand. I went through days where I had to help my parents get water from a place 500 Meters away, even before my teenage started. I feel, many of my generation youth might have went through this kind of period in Hyderabad, as there was huge water scarcity and that taught me the importance of saving water!!!
Now Why I say I feel lucky is, even though some days were tough I enjoyed, traffic free roads, no pollution, helping neighbors, Vast grounds to play cricket!!!, little cycle rides free of tension.
There was very little use of computers then, and definitely had to undergo the pains of waiting in the long queues and had to plan for it.
Now none of those is available for kids to enjoy. I hope we don't face a day, when we have to take a child to a Science museum to show how a Gulmohar tree or a Neem tree looks like. Now we don't find enough Cows in the city itself. Its a tough thing to bring for house warming ceremonies!!
What we gave to the next generation is, less trees ofcourse WIDE Roads suitable for everyone to spit on the road, More pollution, More crime, More greed, Selfishness, application less education, and now sex education in the school itself, thanks to the internet.
Worst, the solution mantra of youngsters, Leave the country to get higher education ... rubbish.
What's the use of playing with minnows... Play the game with the toughest. Don't try to avoid the defeat by not playing, but try to win the match. Atleast we will learn how close we can go!!!!
The advantage of facing tough days when we are young is we tend to accept defeat as a part of life, and start looking forward for the next move. We learned it the hard way. It was sweet.
What I am worried is, now most of the kids are tasting wealth of their parents. They will never know the importance of money in life. They will never be in a situation, as long as their parents are alive, to understand its importance. Many parents may feel the importance of giving a good life to their kids, but may not know the importance of teaching the lessons they learned, "Accepting Failure and Success Equally", "Individuality", and Importance of money.
Very few know the importance of team as they hardly have place to play team games. A day will come, when a group want to play cricket, they will attach few sensors to their bodies and login to the internet site and start emoting as if they are playing cricket!!!
I will not be surprised if more and more kids commit suicide as they will not have the guts to accept defeat!! They would always want to live in luxuries ( ex: I will come only if we go in a CAR with AC)!!! and if this recession kind of effect keeps affecting the IT industry once in a while, are the parents ready to make their kids be adaptive as they are???
hmmm..
